Goals and objectives of examination of objects of visual arts and functional significance of updating databases of artists

Abstract

In the article are identified objectives and specific methods of conducting examinations as well as specified features and practical skills in gathering information for a database on artists. It’s noted that currently in preparation of expert opinion, it’s important to have convincing evidence which can also be obtained by means of technical and analytical studies taking into account scientific and technical progress. The latter should include analyze of factures of paint layer, its study in infrared and ultraviolet radiation with identification of later interventions in the structure of the object, as well as radiographic study of the identification of undetected restoration and counterfeiting. Particular attention is drawn to the fact that during the examination of cultural values are constantly used a text archive of expert reports gained in the department, as well as photo-store with fixed signatures in electronic form (the beginning of the collection of databases of the truly perfect varieties signature is dated in 2005). It was determined that during the examination of visual arts significant attention must be paid to the role of a database on artists and their biographical data, such as location, time of the move, stay in a particular country and the creative journey. For clarity, two specific examples described studies conducted to confirm the authenticity of works of Armenian artist P.Terlemezyan and Russian artist V.Polenov. It is stated that for the implementation of high-quality and error-free examinations of works of art it’s necessary to pay attention to volumetric collective activity to replenish the database of works of art of modernity. This work is the key to the success of qualitative examination of works of art that allows you to distinguish the original from the fakes and copies. It is shown that the completion of the biographical data and copyrights of the artists create the prerequisites for qualified examination and subsequent integration of the database of visual arts in such structures of advanced European countries
