Abstract
The article examines the role of the United Nations as a leading global institution in international cooperation of forensic experts in ad dressing international economic, social, cultural and humanitarian is sues. The purpose of the study was to identify and analyse the regula tory framework and legal instruments that exist in the United Nations to provide international assistance in the field of forensic science. The article highlights the participation of the United Nations structural units (in particular, the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Jus tice, the Office on Drugs and Crime, the International Court of Justice, the International Criminal Court and others) in expert support of justice. The author analyses the existing international conventions and recom mendations and resolutions developed by the UN for member states on the effective provision of legal aid and the use of international experts in investigations. The author examines the role of forensic experts in mod el agreements for the provision and receipt of international legal assis tance in criminal investigations, as well as the UN Register of Forensic Experts, which contains data on forensic experts of various specialties and is of great importance for the protection of human rights and ensur ing effective investigation of cases of serious violations of international humanitarian rights. The author formulates conclusions about the need to strengthen international legal institutions, standardise technological requirements for forensic expert activity, and bring Ukrainian legislation in this area closer to international practice.
