Expertise of cold steel: the problems of the theory and practice

Abstract

The expertise of cold steel took place in litigation, connected with the use of weapon, used to damage the health, the acts of unlawful acquisition or trade, exportation of undeclared kinds of weapon, through the customs office, etc.  
The cold steel — is the objects and devices, constructively intended and by their properties are suitable for repeated application, by the direct effects of severe (life-threatening, at the time of infliction) and fatal injuries, action of which, is based on the use of human muscle power. Analysis of expert practice examination of bladed weapons. Techniques of criminalistic investigation of cold steel and constructively similar to them products and a survey of practical workers of expert divisions testify, that at the current stage, there are significant problems of expertise of cold steel. Despite a significant step in the development of expertise of bladed weapons, connected with the acceptance of the technique of criminalistic investigation of cold steel and constructively similar to it products, practice of its use has shown that certain provisions of the techniques have significant disadvantages. The article analyzes the main provisions of research methods of bladed weapons and constructively similar to it products, identified the problematic issues of the examination of bladed weapons and presents suggestions for remedying them.
